Grades 7-8 relocation within ESS
Posted on 04/19/2023
Due to continued enrolment growth over the last year at Odessa Public School, and a projected increase of 100 students for September 2023, the school will require additional classroom space to accommodate the additional students.
Board and school staff have looked at a few options to accommodate this enrolment growth and the preferred option is to relocate all Grade 7 and 8 students to a self-contained wing within Ernestown Secondary School.
This model has been previously utilized for E.S.S./Odessa when enrolment pressures were experienced. Staff in both buildings will be most aware of and experienced with this transition.
We believe that the Grade 7 – 12 structure optimizes the learning environment for students. In similar situations across the Limestone District School Board, the relocation of students has been a successful model and well received by many parents, guardians, students, and staff.
Grades 7 and 8 students would have their own classrooms, timetable, and lunch hour. Students would remain part of the Odessa P.S. student body. Odessa administration would continue to oversee the Odessa Satellite. E.S.S. and Odessa P.S. already operate on the same bus schedule, and so the students at the Odessa Satellite will continue to follow the regular Odessa P.S. timetable.
It is important to us that families and students have an opportunity to provide feedback on this contingency plan to accommodate enrolment growth at our school. Please share your thoughts by completing this survey:

The survey will remain open until 6pm on May 23, 2023. We will strive to address any concerns that may arise from the survey. The survey is voluntary and anonymous. All respondents will remain confidential.
There will be more information and communication sent to families in the coming weeks to make the transition as smooth as possible.
