November 11, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It’s hard to believe that Fall is well under way and that, with the weather we are having, we are edging towards Winter.  Odessa PS is a hub of activity right now, with field trips, team sports, and engaging classroom activities challenging our students daily.

This time of year is also a reflective one for our staff and students, one where we acknowledge the sacrifice of our Veterans on Remembrance Day, ponder Canada’s heritage through fostering awareness of our Indigenous People, and begin to think about how we can serve and connect with our community – whether that be through food drives or community events which bring us all together.  Currently, we have a ton (literally!) of food in our foyer, as a result of our We Scare Hunger Campaign.  Soon, that food will be supporting families in need.  We are very appreciative of our school community for that support.

You will have noticed on your school calendar that we have two school events coming up.  The first is the public meeting on November 30th, taking place in the Odessa gym between 6 – 8pm, and concerning the Pupil Accommodation and Review for Yarker Family School and Odessa PS.  Details on how to register for that meeting have already been sent home, but can also be found on both the school and board websites.  As well, on December 1st, our Parent Council will be hosting a special evening with Dr. Sian Phillips, who will be speaking on supporting healthy brains in our youth. Please watch for more information coming on both events.

Finally, as things are getting colder, please ensure that your children are dressed for the weather.  We know that many of you have started, as our ‘lost and (hopefully) found’ is expanding.  Please feel free to come to the school to look for lost items.  We can more readily connect students with their belongings when names are printed on the inside tags.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Darren Seymour,
Principal
