News From the Tiger’s Den - June 22nd to 26th, 2026

Dear Tiger Families, <img src="/images/daa8aa14-2a56-46c6-b19f-2188eaec8e95?fingerprint=ppb20260617213039" alt="2026June18" width="321" height="428" style="width:321px;height:428px;display:inline-block;float:right">It is hard to believe that we are into the last week of school! It has been a terrific year at Odessa and we have so much to celebrate! We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for their support and partnership this school year. Collaboration between all of the key stakeholders in a child's life is the recipe for success.We have seen immense growth in our students' literacy skills this year. Standardized literacy assessments completed three times in the year indicate that many students have moved out of the "At risk" category. This would not happen without the targeted instruction that the educators have done in phonics and reading fluency. Students have also been part of the goal setting process. Their hard work and determination has also been a key factor in this success. Continued work to improve literacy skills will continue into the 2026-27 school year. Educators will also embark on a similar process to monitor and track improvements in number fluency next school year.The Library Revitalization Committee at Odessa Public School is excited to share that Odessa will have a brand new library in the fall of 2026. This has been made possible by the contributions of the Odessa Community to fundraising, hot lunches and milk over the last number of years, as well as a donation from our School Council. We are excited to unveil the new space in the fall. There is a picture of the rendering below. We will be celebrating the end of the school year at the final success assembly on Thursday, June 25th at 8:15 am. At this assembly, we will also be saying farewell to our Grade 6 students as they move on to Ernestown for Grade 7. All families are welcome to attend the assembly on the last day.Mrs. Bush and I would again like to thank the community for their support over our tenure at Odessa Public School. We have truly enjoyed every moment of our time at Odessa and will cherish the memories that we have made here. Dear Families,As we move towards the last week of the 2025-2026 school year, I want to share a few important updates and reminders as we wrap up the year and begin looking ahead to September.2026-2027 School Year Budget At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Limestone District School Board’s 2026-2027 budget, prepared in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board standards. The motion directs the Chair to write to the Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, the Premier, local MPPs, OPBSA, CODE, and union partners, requesting additional funding to support the hiring of more frontline staff and will highlight that Limestone annually spends approximately $10 million beyond provincial funding to support special education.Reminder: P.A. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Together, these changes will help students stay engaged in their learning and be better prepared for life after graduation.I hope the summer ahead provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well-earned time together. Invitation for Applications External Members for the Audit Committee

The Limestone District School Board is seeking community members with strong financial expertise and business acumen to serve as external members of its Audit Committee for a three‑year term beginning September 2026.The Audit Committee consists of three Trustees and two independent community members. Its mandate is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its governance and oversight responsibilities. News From the Tiger’s Den - June 15th to 19th, 2026

Dear Tiger Families, <img src="/images/eadf0703-6674-48a5-b449-96c5bad024cb?fingerprint=ppb20260612140452" alt="2026June14" width="301" height="401" style="width:301px;height:401px;display:inline-block;float:right">It is hard to believe that there are only 9 days left of school. It has been an absolutely fantastic school year! Last week, we had lots of Tigers representing our school at events around the district. On Tuesday, twenty-six students participated in the LDSB Track and Field Championship Meet. It was a fantastic day for our students. All of the students represented our school with pride. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication. Our Bantam Girls has some stand out performances. Joan J. was 9th in the triple jump. Vanessa A. was 4th in both the 100 m and 200m races. Hannah C. was 1st in the 800m and 1200m, as well as 2nd in the 400m. Hannah, Joan, Vanessa and Addison combined to place 4th in the 4x100m relay. Hannah was the silver medalist overall in the Bantam Girls division with 19 points!!! Congratulations to all of our TIGER athletes on a great day!On Thursday, our Ultimate Frisbee team competed at the LESAA tournament. It was a beautiful day and our team had the opportunity to play five games. They learned a lot along the way and Mrs. Watkins was especially proud of how they exemplified the "Spirit of the Game" throughout the tournament.The Staffing Process has been completed for the 2026-27 School Year. Below is the tentative list of classrooms and educator assignments for next school year. Please understand that this is not static and may change before the beginning of the school year. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. As a publicly funded school board, we have both a legal and moral responsibility to create learning environments where everyone can see themselves reflected and feel a sense of belonging.

News From the Tiger’s Den - June 8th to June 12th

Dear Tiger Families, <img src="/images/cd17b36f-d3a3-481f-b3a4-168ffaa56074?fingerprint=ppb20260605130006" alt="2026June8" width="330" height="440" style="width:330px;height:440px;display:inline-block;float:right">Last week was a busy week for our Tiger Team! On Monday, we had our Mini Cub Race where our Grade 1 and 2 students ran their final lap of the Marathon Club. These hardworking primary students have been doing fifteen minutes of running/walking every day in the month of May. They came home with a beaded necklace where each bead represented one kilometre. It was wonderful to see them run their last lap with such pride!Monday was also the Fun Fair at OPS. Our incredible School Council put on an AMAZING event for the community. There were food trucks, inflatables, carnival games, face painting, glitter tattooes, balloon animals, a photo booth and so much more. Our community helpers also came out for the "Touch a Truck" portion of this event. The Lions Club generously supported the barbeque. It was wonderful to see so many families out to support this terrific event. Thank you to all of the families that donated to the JARS, JARS, JARS fundraiser. It was very successful in the first year!On Wednesday, 45 TIGER Track and Field athletes represented Odessa at the Region 2 Track and Field Meet at Caraco Field. We had many incredible runs and jumps over the course of the day. There were also fantastic displays of sportsmanship and resilience by our Tigers throughout the day. The top 5 in each event move forward to compete in the LDSB District Track and Field Championships next Tuesday at Caraco Field. Odessa had a record number of qualifiers with 18 moving on to the District Meet to represent our school. Special mention to Hannah C. who was the overall gold medalist in the Bantam Girls division with 21 points (1st in the 400m, 800m and 1200m) and Vanessa A. who was Bantam Girls overall silver medalist with 14 points (1st in the 100m and 200m). Principal’s Report</h2> ·         Had a drumming presentation sponsored by the rotary club Kingston, huge hit with lots of participation from students and teachers too!·         EQAO is about to start. More information and revised schedule coming out this week to those writing the assessment.·         Math data on student strategies will be collected in June and fed forward to Sept planning so teachers have this data available by the PA day at the start of the school year and planning for their classes in Sept.·         Well being data was shared. Winter clubs and musical presentations were planned throughout the winter. Other well being initiatives included:o    Junkyard Johnny was very well received and engaged students of all ages. o    This year the grades 1 and 2 are doing a mini marathon. They are running every day and working towards 21 kms.o    Encourage physical activity for the kids.o    A new design for the library was presented to upgrade the library. This project has been sitting for a few years, paused during COVID. The committee has landed on a design with a library and maker space in the same area. Work is being planned for the fall. Technology for the library is being supported by the company that does the school pictures!§  Request of Parent Council- Could we cover the cost of one of the items in the room? For example the middle table/seating arrangement is an idea and costs around $4500. §  Parent council to discuss available funds and arrive at decision before June meeting.o    If there are different grants that we can apply to for library upgrades, please bring them forward. We could ask the Lions club who will be here for the fun fair?·         Soccer tournament is tomorrow·         Track and field starts first week of June with regionals·         Welcome to kindergarten was successful. Over 30 families attended.·         End of year trips o    All scheduled·         Teacher grade assignments will come out middle of June. Expecting 13 classrooms next year, same as this year.·         We already have the number of kindergarten registrations that meets what we have today. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">3. Treasurer’s Report ()</h2> <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Total balance = $10,082.15</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Field trip allocations have come out for 8 classes</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">We do need to use the account that is called ProGrants for this year ($500)- it is supposed to be used within the school year its received.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Last year we had provided money for outdoor equipment. This has all been purchased for the classrooms (i.e., outdoor balls) and being put to use now.</li></ul> <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">4. Committee Reports</h2> FUN FAIR PLANNING<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Township grant that we applied for cannot be made retroactively, and the fun fair happens before we will hear about the approval of the grant (expected decision in June).<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Next year will need to apply in the fall if considering this grant</li></ul></li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Need a take home flyer about jars jars jars and fun fair info and pre sale</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Administration can help promote and remind parents. News From the Tiger’s Den - June 1st to June 5th

Dear Tiger Families, <img src="/images/12495789-efc0-481f-9f64-5e60a93ccf90?fingerprint=ppb20260529165634" alt="2026June1" width="349" height="465" style="width:349px;height:465px;display:inline-block;float:right">Happy Monday! Today is a BIG day. We have the mini marthon final run for our Grade 1 and 2 students this afternoon. This will be followed on Monday night with the FUN FAIR from 5 to 7 pm. These should both be fantastic events. We hope to see you there!The Grade five and six students had a wonderful time at the Blue Jays Game last week. It was a long day in the hot sun but the students were all smiles sharing about the trip on Thursday. Thanks to Mrs. Allen, Mr. Legge, Mme Morrow, and Ms. Coulas for organizing such a fun adventure.Over the next two weeks, our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the EQAO Primary and Junior assessments. We want to reassure families that students are well prepared and ready to show what they have learned. The most important support we can provide at both school and home is to remind them to take their time, do their best, and not to worry. These assessments are just one opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, and we are incredibly proud of the growth, effort, and perseverance they have shown throughout the year. Families of Grade 3 and 6 students are asked to pay careful attention to the times that their class will be writing EQAO and avoid absences where possible. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is Seeking Expression of Interest</h2>The Limestone District School Board is seeking expressions of interest from <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">individuals</a><a href="#_msocom_1" class="editor-link">[EL1]</a>  interested in joining the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) in support of the ongoing Student Census 2025 project.The purpose of the Technical Advisory Group is to provide advice, perspectives, and recommendations related to the design of data collection methods, analysis, and the representation of results for LDSB’s Student Census. TAG plays a critical role in ensuring that multiple and diverse perspectives are applied to the interpretation of data, helping to minimize bias and strengthen the relevance and integrity of findings.We are seeking expressions of interest for the committee for the September 2026 to August 2028 term.  We welcome expressions of interest from all members of the Limestone community, including those who can help us fill the following vacancies:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">One to two parents of a Limestone student(s) who is not an employee of the LDSB</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">A Limestone school administrator</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">One or more Limestone secondary students</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">One community partner member who works alongside LDSB</li></ul>Experience in data collection, analysis, and/or reporting of identity‑based data is encouraged; however, individuals with a broad range of research or analysis backgrounds and/or lived experiences are encouraged to apply.
