I am hopeful that there will not be any more bus cancellation days this school year, but there is always a possibility they will occur. In conversation with families it has come to my attention that not all families realize that they must report their children absent on bus cancellation days through Safe Arrival. If you do not report your child's absence as "Inclement Weather" on Safe Arrival on Bus Cancellation days then your child will be marked absent instead of excused. I highly encourage families to remember to report when their child is absent due to inclement weather. It is not done automatically.

We all had a fantastic time at the dance and bake sale housed by the Grade 5, 5/6 and 6 classes. The number of donations to the bake sale were incredible!!! We cannot thank you enough for your support of this event. The funds raised are going towards reducing the cost of the Grade 5, 5/6 and 6 class trip to the Blue Jays Game.

Students will begin to suggest names for our new Odessa Tiger this week. They will have the opportunity to come up with lots of ideas. A team of staff will select a few options and we will hold a school wide vote the following week. The name of our new Tiger will be unveiled at the March Success Assembly. For now, the unnamed tigers has been appearing at events throughout out the school including the bake sale and dance on Friday.

As always, please reach out to us if you have questions or need support.

Take care,

K. News From the Tiger’s Den - February 9th, 2026

Dear Tiger Families,

The Term 1 Report Cards will be sent home on Friday. They are a collection on all of the learning that has occurred this term. We are very proud of the progress the students have made both academically and in the areas of learning skills. This report card should not come as a surprise to you and I would encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

There will be an attendance letter coming home with all students who have been absent for 10 or more days of school this term. The Ministry of Education and the Limestone District School Board's goal is to ensure that all students do not miss more than 10% of the instructional school days. If students miss 10% of the school year (approximately 20 days) each year, by the time they finish Grade 8 they will have missed an entire year of school. This letter is meant to inform families of how much instructional time has been missed in the first term for your records and information. We will be reaching out to families directly via phone calls where there are serious concerns about attendance and a referral to the attendance cousellor may be required.

We have collected A LOT of Lost and Found. There are images below of the items that have been collected. We are going to have the students look at them this week and we encourage families to come in and take a look. At the end of the week, we will be donating any remaining items.

We celebrated January's achievements on Friday. Congratulations to our seven Tigers in the Spotlight for the past month: Rory, Kate, Leila, Sophia, Isaac, Paul and Ellie!

As always, please reach out to us if you have questions or need support.

Take care,

K. The educators spent Friday (PA Day) preparing the first term report cards which will be sent home on Friday, February 13th. The whole school curled up with good books last Thursday. It was wonderful to see how excited the students were to choose the books they wanted to listen to and to have the independence to move from reading to reading on their own. Many students enjoyed visiting with previous teachers or going into classrooms they hadn't been in before.

It is hard to believe that we are thinking about end of year trips but preparation begins early. The Grade 5, 5/6 and 6 classes are going to go to a Blue Jays game in Toronto. They are going to be doing a variety of fundraising activities for a school community as a way to reduce the overall cost of the trip. The School Council has also generously contributed to this trip (as they do for each classroom in the school once per year).

As always, please reach out to us if you have questions or need support.

Take care,

K. Real effort to align staff on the importance of the EQAO assessment from last year has helped and more dedication.

-Junior (grade 6) EQAO results showed a similar improvement, 42% met the required math benchmark for grade 6, but this is up from 10% in the previous year meeting the requirement. Similar trends in other schools across the board in math- hoping to see growth with the math fluency work we are doing. Also, helping students get more comfortable with multiple choice style assessments. Growth was also seen in reading and writing.

-We’ve also introduced test taking and stress concepts around EQAO using a performance curve model- which helps to frame a little stress as optimal for test taking. We have gone back to Loyalist with a request for a support person to direct traffic, or signage. Erin and Stacey to address it as well with the Township. When updates are received, we will go out for a few days and direct the traffic and communicate to parents through the newsletter.

-Games/Bingo- they’ve been very popular and well attended. Message to Families - February 11, 2026

Dear Families,

The Limestone District School Board is deeply saddened to learn of the horrific events that took place yesterday impacting a school and community in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

No words can adequately express our condolences to those affected. Our hearts are with the students, families, and community members who have been directly impacted by this awful event. While there are many national and international events that affect people on a daily or weekly basis, events impacting schools have an impact on everyone attached to schools and education.

Significant events like these, that are in the public eye and heavily featured on news and social media, can have an impact on students and families in different ways. These impacts may look different for each person and be impacted by their source(s) of information and/or media coverage.

We are here to offer support. The board’s Educational Services team is available to support students and families as needed. Educational Services has prepared the following tips to help families support students during this time:

Recognize that students may become concerned that something bad will happen to themselves, family, or friends. Explain that safety measures are in place and reassure them that you and other adults will take care of them.

If your student is not focused on what happened, avoid dwelling on it or having detailed adult conversations in front of younger students. However, be available to answer questions to the best of your ability. Young students may not be able to express themselves verbally. Pay attention to changes in their behaviour or social interactions.

For some, limiting exposure to media coverage or other sources of information may be important, particularly when social media platforms contain significant amounts of misinformation or disinformation. Images of a horrific event can become overwhelming, especially if watched repetitively. Young students may not be able to distinguish between images on television or their screen, and their personal reality. For older students who choose to watch the news or scroll social media stories related to the event, be available to discuss what they see and to help put it into perspective.

Be aware of your own needs. Do not ignore your own feelings of anxiety and concern or anger. Talking to friends, family members, and mental health counsellors can help. You will be better able to support others if you can express your own emotions in a productive manner.

In addition, community supports and resources are available:

<a href="https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftrack.spe.schoolmessenger.com%2Ff%2Fa%2F5dtj2RpKyWZVMFip7eilAg~~%2FAAAAARA~%2FAhbXHyCLOOtfzcyagEZuGKPLbV5K-tlSWExqTmCL9-NVHVXd5eNYIKPxB8LGeEHouRZa2lvNZ1rO5TreJ7ri-UP7lxBJGi8V600JPmsZCBQkGsmS2uYlqi57IsFtWQki4gqwYIYAWuGuphCTy3wTmUSdDqaCRDgUxId5Uo6sZ2R_Gd8xfoLplCx5s2_bp68vOlgOv7CA2h3n9lyUcaj26A~~&data=05%7C02%7Cgrangea%40limestone.on.ca%7C1dd4b994643e4a1f80be08de698eb5e8%7Ce1f4165febae4d82a73ca0de593830be%7C0%7C0%7C639064258884292586%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=qfUtl3ogntDAI3yxWjmDmIvm79eSfhc0xUDxYtAllIk%3D&reserved=0" title="Original URL: http://track.spe.schoolmessenger.com/f/a/5dtj2RpKyWZVMFip7eilAg~~/AAAAARA~/AhbXHyCLOOtfzcyagEZuGKPLbV5K-tlSWExqTmCL9-NVHVXd5eNYIKPxB8LGeEHouRZa2lvNZ1rO5TreJ7ri-UP7lxBJGi8V600JPmsZCBQkGsmS2uYlqi57IsFtWQki4gqwYIYAWuGuphCTy3wTmUSdDqaCRDgUxId5Uo6sZ2R_Gd8xfoLplCx5s2_bp68vOlgOv7CA2h3n9lyUcaj26A~~.
